Olive oil is often referred to as ‘liquid gold’ and Valencian oil producer Sergi González has taken oil to Russia and come back with gold, a gold medal from the 23rd annual food and drinks fair in Moscow, PRODEXPO.
His prize winning oil is called, somewhat mysteriously, ‘Oli del Mar,’ and it had to compete with over 2,000 companies from 64 countries, along with 1,400 Russian companies.
Sergi’s 200 hectares of olive trees are planted in the north of Castellón province on the border with Catalonia in the Baix Ebre, where he has dedicated his skills to the recuperation of olive trees, some of which are centuries old and had been abandoned for decades.
Sergi is a dreamer, someone who had experienced success in the big, bad world of business, but who wanted to dedicate his talents to an activity combining tradition and environmental sustainability.
It becomes obvious that he doesn’t fit a simple profile when you enter his website and are warned:
“Enter slowly,
because you enter my dreams.”
In fact, the website reads more like a book of poems that a sales vehicle, encouraging you to slow down and enjoy the good things in life, savouring the varieties of oil made from Sevillenca, Morrut, Farga, Arbequina and Coupage olives.
