Possibly the 14th Best Cheese in the World
The Valencian supermarket chain Mercadona has been awarded a prize as the 14th best cheese worldwide.
The cheese in question is produced by one of Mercadona’s exclusive providers, Queserías Entrepinares, and goes under the name of ‘Viejo Tostado,’ at a cost of 3.98€ a piece.
230 experts from 29 countries participated in this cheese fest, tasting 3,742 cheeses before pronouncing their verdict and being put out to graze.
The awards ceremony was held this year in Bergen, Norway, which may or may not explain why the winner was a Norwegian blue.
Seriously though, the judges took into account the body, rind, colour, texture, consistency and taste.
Despite the price, Valencia International splashed out on a segment of this laudable dairy product and the conclusion was that it’s very tasty, with a tangy, lingering flavour.
