June 12th will see the inauguration of what is sure to become a Valencian tradition; the Zoco Mercado de Colón, in the emblematic modernist gem of Valencian architecture designed by Francisco Mora.

Colón Market’s conversion was inspired by London’s own Covent Garden Market, scenario of the film ‘My Fair Lady’ and the new plan follows the concept of London street markets, like the one appearing in the film ‘Notting Hill’.
Every second Sunday of the month (except August) the market will fill up with fashion, accessories, artisan and decorative products, with a special emphasis on originality.
And there will be music, sweet music, there’ll be music everywhere (sorry, got carried away there), starting off with the Van Der Jazz, group; no relation to Van De Graf Generator presumably.
And of course, a Valencian event would not be such a thing without gastronomy, and so there will be plenty of opportunities to pile up on your plate and top up your glass.
And the kids….oh my God, where are the kids? Don’t worry, the kids are alright and they be busy painting their faces among other incomprehensible kiddy things, thanks to Ludic Animación, who will be putting up with what Churchill referred to as the unputupwithable..
The woman behind all this is Vanessa Cotter, who has experimented with similar ‘Zocos’, an Arabic word for market, in Madrid (La Moraleja), Muelle Uno in Málaga and Parque Maria Luisa in Sevilla,
To get us in the mood, on 9th of June at 7 pm there will be a flashmob performance in the market, directed by Verónica Mejía of the Dance Center Valencia with 20 participants.
The Zoco will run from 11:00 to 19:00.
