Without a doubt the star of the 2019 Spanish Davis Cup victory in Madrid was Roberto Bautista, who stoically continued playing despite the death of his father during the tournament, winning the admiration of all, even team mate Rafa Nadal.
Valencian Roberto Bautista Agut won the 2019 Qatar Open 6-4 3-6 6-3, beating Tomas Berdych in the final, his ninth ATP Tour title.
Bautista had already beaten none other than world number one Novak Djokovic in the semi final.
Spanish tennis probably reached its peak when Rafa Nadal first became number one in the world, but a little further down the ratings, the Valencian Community were two bright stars; David Ferrer from Alicante province:

and Roberto Bautista from Castellón.
In January 2016 Bautista won the Auckland Tournament in New Zealand and in February was champion in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The victories in Auckland and Sofia were the third and fourth major tournaments that Roberto has won, having triumphed in Stuttgart in 2014, and at Hertogenbosch the same year.
He started playing professional tennis in 2005.
Bautista also reached the quarter finals in Madras, India. Bautista himself is now classified as the world’s number 9th best player.
In October 2016 he also defeated the world number 1, Djokovic in Shanghai.
