Edgar Juan is a fire fighter from Gandia who likes to play hard, despite having a soft heart.
Among his hobbies, as if putting out fires and saving lives wasn’t enough, is mountaineering, and it was on one of his climbing trips, taking on the highest peak in North Africa, Toubkal, that he came across the village of Mareb, along with four colleagues.
Mareb is located at 2,200 metres above sea level, and what impacted on Edgar was the state of the school, without electricity or water.
As a result of this experience Edgar and others decided to create an NGO, Sendes Solidàries.
With the first 700€ raised they set about supplying electricity to the school, providing windows and school materials.
They also laid the foundations for a new school with money raised from the sale of a book El Mirall d’Àfrica, written by Juan and a teacher called Dolors Todolí, a story book for young children.
They hope that by September 2019 the school will be finished and open for….education.
