El Puchero Solidarity

In view of the impossibility of continuing its usual restaurant activity in the

Valencian neighbourhoods of El Marítimo and Orriols due to the state of alarm, THE SOLIDARITY KITCHEN El PUCHERO AND El PUCHERO PORTUARIO DISTRIBUTE FOOD TO THE MOST DISADVANTAGED

These days there are many companies, entities and associations that have had to reinvent themselves in order to continue serving society. And among them is the solidarity kitchen initiative El Puchero and El Puchero

Port. Two soup kitchens that have launched a search for donations of

food, as well as other staple products to help during the pandemic for Valencian families with limited resources.

Both kitchens are solidarity kitchens that open their doors daily in Valencia to feed people at risk of social exclusion in the El Maritimo and Orriols neighbourhoods. But since 14th of March 2020, with the state of alarm, centres in Spain have had to look for alternatives to continue assisting those who need it most.

Thus, the promoters of both Pucheros, the multinational fruit and vegetable company SanLucar and the Asociación Coordinadora Solidaria de la Estiba del Puerto de Valencia, are distributing boxes of food and hygiene items to more than 400 people who use their dining rooms. Families who have been left without any economic resources that allow them to cover their basic food needs.

This initiative is also supported by Arroz La Fallera, Food Bank, Consum, Fundación Ayuda a una Familia, Grupo Alimentario Martínez, Mercadona, Platos Traditional, SanLucar and many others.

The aim is to alleviate the suffering of those who live in confinement in a precarious state, until El Puchero and El Puchero Portuario can resume their activity again. An activity that consists of a very particular model of soup kitchen, which offers food to vulnerable groups under the format “takeaway”, in order to promote family reconciliation, protect the dignity of users and not break family eating habits. In addition, they provide social care, courses of training and technical support from public and private entities to promote the social and occupational integration of users.
