New Release from The Blue Dolphins

Hello Everybody!

Hope you’re well and enjoying the birth of Spring around the world. Today is a special day for us as we present to you our recording of a cover song that is very close to our hearts. The Incredible String Band’s ‘Painting Box’.

The song was originally released by the Scottish Psychedelic Folk band, on their ‘5000 Spirits or the Layers of the Onion’ album in 1967. Alfonso first heard the song when his older brother Nel was playing it on his record player in a small bedroom that the four brothers shared in a tiny village called Casas Ibañez, in the middle of La Mancha, Spain. Nel and Rodri, Alfonso’s older brothers both played guitar and ordered records from across the globe from a monthly catalogue.

Futhermore the Rodenas and Scott parents are and were all talented visual artists who loved to paint, so we both grew up with the scent and sight of oil and acrylic paints in our homes as well as I, (Victoria), being an ex- Art and Theater student from Manchester Metropolitan University, UK. All in all the metaphor of love and playing around in the paint is just perfect for The Blue Dolphins. The sentiment is equally existential as it is playful.
Alfonso says of the production; ‘We wished to capture the colorful ingenuity of the original with an upbeat take on it for this new release’. We would like to thank Edoardo Tancredi for his excellent drums and Micheal Gunner Murray for the single art work.  Thank you for downloading a copy of Painting Box from your favorite digital platform and for listening to it on Spotify!
If you are in Los Angeles, mark your calendars for our next LIVE show at the 48th Annual Topanga Days Festival, Corral Stage 12.15 pm directly after the parade. Tickets are on sale now!
