Your Turn in a Yurta
As most of the film version of Doctor Zhivago was made in Spain, it seems reasonable that the traditional houses used by the steppe wandering Mongols, known as the Yurta, should also be manufactured here.
This nomadic dwelling, which takes a day to take down and carry off, is not the answer to the housing crisis, or even the economic crisis, but a serious venture undertaken by a Valencian company, Biosolis, located in Valle D’Uxo, Castellón.
Temporary accomodation has always been a fundamental part of the tourism and events industries, although the economic advantages are often outweighed by the discomfort factor, and so a construction that is both cheap, adaptable and ecological could quite well be a winner.
The Valencian Yurta is as near to authentic as possible, although the lack of yaks roaming the plains of Castellón means that they have had to deviate from the original design a little, using modern design techniques and materials.
Neither do they expect you to sleep surrounded by candles with your head resting on your horse for a pillow; renewable energies and appropriate furnishings can also be provided on request.
And if you can’t conceive of living in a yurta, eben for a weekend, without killing what you eat, they promise to take care of any paperwork necessary to obtain any kind of necessary licence.
So, if you’ve always fancied yourself as a modern day Ghenghis Khan, whose most memorable career reflection was: “The greatest joy for a man is to defeat his enemies, to drive them before him, to take all they possess, to see those they love in tears, to ride their horses, and to hold their wives and daughters in his arms,” and if you have that essential little extra space in your back garden, terrace or balcony, then you can probably find no better way to satisfy your vices than by buying a YURTA BIOSOLIS, available in a wide range of colours and priced between 12,000 and 50,000 euros, more or less what you would expect to earn on a cattle raid.
