Valencian Panettone: Out-Italianing Italy

There are some things that we inevitably associate with Italy; pasta and pizza for example.

Another is surely panettone, and yet this typical cake, originally from Milan and dating back to the days of the Roman Empire, has its best producer in Valencia.

Don’t take our word for it; the Valencian company Fartons Polo has been awarded the gold medal for its offering in the second championship held in Rome’s Cinecitta.

Fartons Polo, best known for the intriguingly named Farton, which accompanies horchata, saw off 300 competitors in October 2020 in a competition with bakers from China, Japan, USA, France, Morocco and of course Italy.

The company, founded in Titaguas in 1939, now has its main factory in Alboraya, the cradle of horchata.
