Valencian Eye in the Sky

After 12 years work and 70 million euros spent, NASA and the European Space Agency will finally put into orbit the 300 kilo telescope built by a team led by Valencia University (UV) on April 2nd.

The purpose of the telescope, known as ASIM, (The Atmosphere Space Interactions Monitor) is to study gamma rays known as TGF (Terrestrial Gamma Ray Flashes) striking the Earth and it will be launched into space by the Rocket ‘Dragon’ from Cape Canaveral.

The team is directed by UV lecturer Víctor Reglero, who will travel to Florida to witness the launch of his ‘baby’.

The Project is an international one with participation from groups of 40 scientists based in Denmark and Norway.
