The Launch of the Caxton Tennis Academy

The British school Caxton College has celebrated the opening of its tennis school with the backing of the Rafa Nadal Academy and official sponsor Kelme.

The new Caxton College Tennis Academy was officially inaugurated with a clinic run by coaches from the Rafa Nadal Academy under the watchful eyes of the players’ family members. Both entities showed their support for a close relationship that will promote the sport of tennis, particularly among young players.

“We want to be perceived as a conventional tennis club where anyone who wants to enjoy the sport of tennis can enrol, from young children right up to adults, in levels of play ranging from beginner to competition. We don’t want to be seen as just an extracurricular activity, but rather as a competition club located at a school. Anyone can enrol, whether or not they are students or staff members at the school”, said Ana Belén Álvaro, Sports Director at Caxton College.

ATP Rigour

The backing of the Rafa Nadal Academy in the opening ceremony for this new tennis programme is proof of the rigour and seriousness of this new tennis school. The day to day running of the school, coordination and training sessions, will be managed by David Estruch, a young former professional tennis player who competed on the ATP circuit, later obtaining his degree in Physical Education and also in Primary Education specialising in PE.

That experience in the world of professional competition, followed by teacher training, is what he now wishes to bring to his coaching. “Having competed with great players and trained at a high level to win tournaments gives me a very useful perspective in conveying that experience to the players I coach. Also, I love teaching and continuing to learn, and I want my players to experience real learning in their classes”, said Estruch.

Approach

Every afternoon during the week, the Tennis Academy’s courts will host training sessions for all different age groups and levels. Caxton College wants to emphasise that its facilities are open to anyone who is interested in improving their tennis game, no matter what school they attend. “Classes will follow a methodology that will enable players of any age to be federated and compete in tournaments as soon as possible in order to gain a full tennis experience”, said Estruch.
