Alicante-born Iván Pastor was declared world Raceboard champion in Australia for the 9th time in November 2016.
Raceboard is a variation on windsurfing, in which Iván competed in the Rio Olympics.
Beating his Polish and New Zealand rivals into second and third places, Iván won ten of the fifteen races and came second twice and third three times, making him overall champion again.
Iván, when he is not catching waves around the world, lives in Santa Pola, and took up the sport thanks to his sporting father, a cousin and his uncle. His uncle runs a summer school, where Iván began his own career
In 2001 he won a silver medal in the XIV Mediterranean Games in Tunis and participated in the Athens Olympics in 2004 and again in Peking 2008 and London 2012.
