Suites for my Sweet

Italians must be a romantic people, for they make up the largest number of foreigners who stay at this hotel which specialises in romantic weekends (with a husband or wife of course; even if it’s your own one).

Sweet Otel is well situated in the historic centre of Valencia, near all its main medieval monuments and museums, and is an old townhouse that has been tastefully converted into a series of en suite bedrooms and mini apartments.

But the main attraction (apart from the free sweets in reception) is, as I say, the romantic weekend, where you and the chosen object of your affection will be pampered and catered too with a series of illicit pleasures such as breakfast in a bed, previously sprinkled with petals and sweets, a bottle of champagne awaiting your arrival, and a Jacuzzi with all the amorous salts and unguents you could hope for.

There are twelve varied rooms, some incorporating Jacuzzi, others more of a mini apartment with cooking facilities in this old converted townhouse with beamed roofs and the original brickwork recuperated.

The owner is Irma Monchó, who opened Sweet back in 2011, and who also runs the Hotel Botanico, another charming little hotel near, as the name suggests, Valencia’s Botanic Gardens, where Valencian students once fought a running battle with Napoleon’s troops.

Although quite small, the hotel does have an airy café on the first floor for breakfasts, and despite being an old building, it has a modern 24 hour access through a code number in case you arrive late on your first night.

The attic rooms are probably the most inviting, with farther views and one of which has a retractable roof to cater for men of all seasons.

The hotel is located at C/ Conde de Montornes 8.
