Through Shaf Recycled Furniture, SpBerner has become the only European company with 50% recycled plastic manufactured in its plant.
“Life is Better Outdoors,” is the new slogan of Shaf, the sustainable furniture brand with which Sp-Berner is now launching its contract line. The Valencian company, which is a national leader in the manufacture of industrial and consumer plastics, acquired the Italian brand Shaf, dedicated to outdoor furniture, in 2015, and is now relaunching it under the name “Shaf Recycled Furniture”.
Sp-Berner collects different materials used in agriculture to be recycled with systems for shredding, washing and drying, and where waste water is also treated.
For the relaunch of Shaf Recycled Furniture, Sp-Berner has taken into account that Valencia will be the world capital of design in 2022 and has chosen the studio of the renowned Valencian designer, Inma Bermúdez, to create a new, totally innovative garden set that also uses over 50% recycled materials.
Sp-Berner was founded in 1964, and is run by the Escarpa family. It has more than 1000 employees, investing 20 million euros a year in R&D. Thus, it has managed to be unique in Europe and transform more than 50,000 tons of recycled materials per year. In addition, it recycles more than 30,000 tons of plastic annually and aims to recycle more plastic than it transforms by 2025, thus cleaning the planet of plastics and reducing CO2 emissions.
By 2021 50% of the total production will be made from recycled plastic. In 2017, Shaf won the European Award for Best Recycled Plastic Product from EPRO (European Association of Plastics Recycling & Recovery Organisations).
The company has the largest infrastructure in the plastic injection sector in Spain, with a total surface area of 400,000 m2 distributed in 5 production plants – Sp Berner and Berner in Aldaya (Valencia), Spalex in Chiva (Valencia) and two logistics warehouses from which 17,000 trucks leave annually. It also has a production plant in Suzhou (China) and a joint venture in Cambrai (France).
They produce cleaning items, household goods and personal care products, toothbrushes and hairbrushes; as well as garden furniture and camping items; Another section produces boxes and pallets.
