Don Pique, Puerto de Sagunto

Don Pique, situated in the port area of Sagunto, is one of those restaurants that is always full, even on a Tuesday evening when we went.

It is a popular, buzzing, modern place, but with a tradition evident from the photos showing its origins.

It’s a place you go to eat well without pretension, wading through tasty tapas until you’ve had enough.

The kitchen is in view, so that you can watch the numerous chefs working away at the wide variety of mostly seafood, with untranslateable specialities such as tellinas or navajas, or piles of steaming mussels for your delight.

There are also set menus although it’s much more fun to plough your way through the four page menu and preferably ordering the stuff you’ve never heard of just to see what turns up.

There is meat available, and of course Serrano ham, and you can even go for grilled vegetables or a salad, but we are really here to trawl the seas.

Don Pique is in Av. Mediterráneo, 81, Puerto de Saunto, close to the beach and also to the industrial landscape of the old steel works, reconverted (shut down) in the 80s.
