The Costa Blanca is an interesting place, colonised by people from all over northern Europe and consequently offering services that are few and far between in cities like Valencia or Castellón.
In the small fishing port of Javea for example there are not one but two Nepalese restaurants, and another one at the Arenal.
Here you can be reminded of the sharp Ghurkha blades in one and treated to a fine view of the bay in the other, while simultaneously looking at pictures of the Himalayas.
Foodwise it doesn’t matter which one you choose as the menu is exactly the same and the staff seem to rotate among the three places.
Order frugally as there are usually freebies included and the portions are more than adequate. For example, if you order onion bhaji you get 4 large ones, more than enough for most ordinary people.
The range on the menu is enormous, with almost 150 dishes, although they are all freshly prepared as you can hear by the sizzling coming from the kitchen. A set menu comes in at 9.50€.
There is also a takeaway service, with a discount and a free bottle of wine.
The food is kept hot on your table with a candle-lit tray, and in true doggy bag tradition, you can take away what you can’t eat without raising an eyebrow from the very friendly staff, who speak Spanish and English, and probably something else.
You’ll probably want to go a few days without brushing your teeth, as the flavours linger and the herbs and spices, as hot or mild as you prefer, will bring back memories of your meal far into the future.
