Researchers at the Instituto de Ciencia y Tecnología del Hormigón (Icitech) at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) have taken a step towards creating buildings better able to resist the effects of earthquakes.
According to Icitech researcher Francisco Javier Pallarés, the advance consists in a combination of materials that absorb horizontal movements while at the same time bearing vertical pressure on the structure of buildings when earthquakes occur.
As it has the same appearance as an ordinary brick, it needs no special installation and is consequently just another brick in the wall.
