People who understand these things like to visit the kitchens when writing a restaurant review. Personally I prefer to visit the toilet; not because of some unspeakable vice or urgent need, but because I feel that if an owner takes care with the toilets, then they probably take even more care with more important things.
And so I was delighted to find a sewing machine in this particular place, and a clock, although I was in no hurry.
Situated in the historic centre, the restaurant has three eating areas, including a small terrace in a back alley, and a pleasant decor.
We went for the 19.90€ tapas menu, consisting of a soup, salad, humus, croquets, Brie cheese with confiture and Valencian mussels.
There was also a 29.90 menu with three starters, a choice of rice, meat or fish and a bottle of wine between two included.
Getting back to the decor, and away from the toilets, the lampshades were quiet hypnotic; in fact if you stared at them long enough, you could imagine you were in the desert, which as Lawrence said “is clean”.
You can find La Casa de la Playa el Carmen, a stroll across the sand and a bit more at Carrer de Calatrava, 4,
