Johan Cruyff is remembered mainly as a player for Ajax and Holland, and as a player and manager of Barcelona Football Club. However, he was also briefly a player for Valencia’s other team U.D.Levante, where, towards the end of his playing career, he provoked enormous expectation among the fans, although no greater glory.
His time there was brief; he only played ten games for the team that wears an almost identical strip to Barcelona, and only scored two goals in 1981, when he was contracted in order to give the team the necessary push to get them back into the first division at a time of financial crisis in the club.
The deal with Levante foiled attempts by English club Leicester City to sign him, and on leaving he returned to Ajax to take on a technical role, which saw the beginning of his career as a manager.
