On their Web site Cocolinda bills itself as a restaurant that fuses “Mediterranean cuisine with global flavors. Homemade, unprocessed dishes that tell stories of travel and a love for authenticity. Food that nourishes both body and soul.”

That’s pretty ambitious and bit confusing but the bewildering hyperbole actually works.

Located on the north side of Passeig de l’Alberda and a short walk from the Alameda metro station, Cocolinda is light, bright and colorful.  The staff is welcoming and a bit laid back (in a good way).  It is a place that feels like there is no great rush but the service still feels prompt and attentive.

There is a very reasonably priced Menú del Dia with three courses for 16,90€ (an extra 3,00€ from Friday to Sunday).

Starters include croquettes (hake with shrimp and spinach with cheese), eggplant tartare, a cheese plate, tuna tartare, hummus and Vietnamese spring rolls.  The menu takes you on a journey across Europe, Asia and the New World.

Main course selections continue the world journey.  Again, it feels a bit disjointed but somehow they deliver on solid flavors.  Choose from a Señoret rice, low temp salmon or veal entrecote with great Med flavors.

All of this is not confusing when the meal arrives.  They really deliver on their promise of global flavors.

Salad choices really shine with their seemingly simple choices being super fresh. Take their Ensalada fresca con una vinagreta cítrica con aceite de oliva y hierbabuena.  This sounds like a simple salad but it is anything but.  Mixed greens, radicchio, radishes, grape tomatoes, avocado, cucumbers and bits of mild feta in a terrific vinaigrette that is really herbaceous.  It comes in what looks like a small bowl but is actually a very nice sized salad.  Just delicious.

Their Ensalada Rusa is classic with potato, carrots, pickles and mayonnaise but with shards of canned tuna. This is served with crispy potato crisps.  It is a great looking salad and tastes as good as it looks.  It is a smaller portion so if you are a fan of rusa, get your own.

Pair this with their Burger La Favorita.  This is a double patty that is cooked perfectly and served on a light brioche bun (gluten free buns are available) grilled onions, homemade pickles, truffled mayonnaise and cheese.  A perfectly delicious burger, cooked to a turn, juicy and not overwhelmed by all of the extras.  Boom!  A real winner.

You can eat inside or outside.  Either way, this is a great casual restaurant with delicious food.
