Valencian Student Fights Fire

Jorge Sancho Muñoz is a student of Aerospace Engineering at Valencia Polytechnic University (UPV) and in November 2018 was proclaimed winner for second year running of the Valencian Community Challenge, part of the European Satellite Navigation Competition, for which Jorge’s project was declared one of the 10 best.

His project is called SAFEman, and as the name suggests is a means of protecting fire fighters during forest fires.

His system enables the Fire Department to know exactly where each fire fighter is in real time at any given moment, and to offer the safest escape route should the need arise.

The system connects the fire fighter to the European GPS Galileo via two devices; one on the helmet and the other on a bracelet, which can also send an alert in case of emergency.
