Valencian Football

The Spanish league is undoubtedly the best in the world, with top class player such as Messi.

For the 2020/21 season, there will be no better place in Spain to see top football; or at least no better place with beaches, than Valencia.

Nobody in their right mind would claim that Valencian football is the best, but it is a fact that, Valencia, along with Madrid and Andlusia, has four first division football teams, and that lovers of top level football can now watch games in all three provinces, in Valencia city (Valencia FC and Levante), Villareal (Castellón) and Elche (Alicante) (promoted at the end of season 2019/20).

They have played in the first division in three different stages this millenium and played in the UEFA Europa League during the 2012/3 season, when they eliminated the Scottish team Motherwell, being eliminated in turn by FC Rubin Kazan of the Republic of Tatarstan.

Also founded in 1923, Elche, from Alicante province was promoted to the first division after the 2012/3 season, and again after the 2019/20 season.

In the late 1950s, Elche achieved two consecutive promotions from the third level to La Liga.
