Unió Gremial was created in February 1913 by traders, professionals and manufacturers from Valencia who from the beginning maintained a strong dynamism in the defence of the interests of Valencian trade and small industry against protectionism and tariff policy.

In 1917 the first Spanish Trade Fair, where a series of monographic events from the different Valencian industrial sectors were promoted, leading to what is now the Fira de València. After the Civil War, with the dictatorship, Unió Gremial was dissolved like most business organisations and trade unions, although not all its guilds were dissolved.

In 1977 the return to democracy allowed the rights and freedom of associations to be restored and Unió Gremial was quickly re-established. At the end of the 1970s, local traders’ associations began to be set up and gradually became part of the Union.

Throughout its history Unió Gremial has been recognised with numerous awards and prizes by both Valencian institutions and civil society.
