Mercadona, the Valencian supermarket chain, leader in Spain, has taken a step towards social responsibility and towards a more humane treatment of animals.
Through the supplier Huevos Guillén of Paterna, Valencia, Mercadona has begun a policy of promoting the consumption of free range eggs, beginning with 180 of its shops in 2018.
59 of its shops already stock free range eggs, and the final goal is that by 2023 100% of the eggs sold in Mercadona will be free range, eliminating completely the battery hen eggs that cause so much controversy among animal lovers and clients concerned about the conditions in which their food is produced.
Huevos Guillén has 480 employees and 6 million hens, and has been producing eggs and related products for over 30 years.
