Medina, Puzol Beach

Along the beach at Puzol there are a number of restaurants with a wide range of styles and prices. Many of the buildings are old fisherman’s dwellings, although some are clearly the work of architects in search of the lost dream.

One of my favourites is the unpretentious Medina, at the most southerly extreme of the beach.

Here in minimalist surroundings you can have an inexpensive meal (mid-week set menu of 13€) while gazing out at the bright blue sea.

There is a sea-facing covered terrace, a main dining room and a patio at the rear, in all of which you can sample from an extensive (but not too much) menu, with various rice dishes such as the tantalisingly named Red Rice.

We went for the menu, and enjoyed a tasty seafood spaghetti, with clams, peas with ham and arroz a banda.

The desserts were home made and the wine list, largely covering a range of Vicente Gandia wines, included a very nice Rosé Bobal for only 10€.

So, a cheap dining experience, and sea bathing is included in the menu at no extra cost.

What a bargain.
