The Japanese gave us sushi, the Italians pizza and Valencia gave us paella, but only the British, when they weren’t busy building an empire, had the brilliant idea to put spaghetti in a tin.
Not content with that, they made the spaghetti into seamless circles and added a sauce thick enough to double as plaster.
Walking into Dealz is a bit like a noseful of freshly mown grass, a blast from the past if like Sting and me you were born in the 50s.
Spaghetti hoops are not the only delicious fare on sale at this British chain with three shops in Valencia already.
You can also have an authentic English breakfast, not with the full fried cholesterol myth, only available and affordable in Benidorm, but the Kellogg’s variety, with bran, corn and other flakes, as well as coco pops for little bit of snap, crackle etc.
This can then be superfluously washed down with one of at least three kinds of tea.
Chocolates are in abundance, including Toblerone without the need to fly somewhere first. And dearly beloved liquorice comforts, a comforting thought.
There’s even delightful Ribena, just like Granny used to make it along with toast soldiers and hard boiled egg.
And biscuits? Are you joking? Do you remember Jaffa Cakes? Or Custard Creams? Yes, all the old favourites, as well as Wagon Wheels.
You’ll never have to eat real food again, or recover your appetite for all that awful Mediterranean diet stuff.
Dealz belongs to the British group Poundland, and can be found in Avenida del Puerto 234 and other locations.
