Closca: Rolling Back the Plastic

Few would disagree (except perhaps the manufacturers) that there is too much plastic in the world, and especially in the sea.

The Valencian company Closca wants to do something about that, and at the same time make a cool fashion statement.

Their new, sleek, elegant water bottle is designed to change the way you find, carry and drink water, and it’s designed to be worn, not carried.

Its innovative silicone flap attaches to your backpack, bike or stroller, making it the perfect fashionable accessory.

The idea is to make the use of plastic bottles a thing of the past.

Plastic production has soared over the last 50 years, with pollution becoming a global epidemic and one of the top concerns for ocean health. More than 80 billion bottles per year are cast adrift into our oceans and landfills with each bottle taking more than 400 years to decompose. This is equivalent to the weight of 800 Eiffel Towers, and enough to cover Manhattan 34 times over. This pollution is so serious that by 2050, there will be more plastic than fish in the world’s oceans.

The people at Closca believe that technology is the key to finding and solving our greatest challenges – which is why they created the free Closca Water App to encourage the use of reusable bottles as opposed to plastic with more than 60K free water refill stations around the world.
