Camagroga in France, Germany and Japan

After a prolific year on the festival circuit, “Camagroga”, by director and screenwriter Alfonso Amador, continues its journey with four new selections at important international festivals, including the Official Documentary Section of the 26th Cinespaña Festival in Toulouse, France (1-10 October) and the International Competition of the Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival, Japan (7-14 October).

The film will also compete in the Feature Documentary section of the Festival Provinziale Eberswalde, Germany (9-16 October) and in the ‘State of the World’ section of the Mexican festival Black Canvas – Festival de Cine Contemporáneo (1-10 October).

Shot over the course of a year in order to capture the changes and cycles of the Valencian huerta (specifically the cultivation of horchata in the town of Alboraya) and the life of a farming family, “Camagroga” is an elegy to work, land, inheritance and resistance.

The Huerta de Valencia is a privileged place of Mediterranean agriculture. It has survived until the present day, but in recent decades it has been suffering an unstoppable process of deterioration. “The Huerta is dying”, say the farmers. One of the latest is Antonio Ramon. “Camagroga” follows his and his daughter’s work for a whole year.

“Camagroga” is a production of the Alicante-based company Dacsa Produccions and Alfonso Amador.

Amador is a director, screenwriter and playwright. His short film “9,8 m/s2” was part of the Official Selection of the Cannes Film Festival, 1998. Winner of the Julio Alejandro Award of the SGAE (2016).

With almost 30 years of experience, Dacsa Produccions is one of the most established audiovisual production companies in the Valencian Community. Created around a nucleus of professionals in the audiovisual sector with the aim of developing and creating focused audiovisual projects.

Their work has been seen at festivals all over the world, such as San Sebastian, the Seminci, DOCSMX, the Havana Festival, among many others. Their latest documentary, ‘Camagroga’ directed by Alfonso Amador (2020) had its world premiere at the Sheffield Doc/Fest in October 2020, and since then, it has been selected in more than 10 international film festivals.
