Be prepared to choke back a tear if you wander along Calle Colón, Valencia’s main shopping street.
Since March 2018 a statue, with a poem in English, awaits you there, bemoaning the fate of abandoned animals and cursing the men ( a bit sexist I think, but I suppose Elena Negueroles, the poetess and sculptress from Alzira, had her reasons) who abandoned all those cats and dogs to a cruel fate of starvation, homelessness and immortality in stone.
The statue can be found across the street from the Social Security building, which may or may not be meaningful, and was donated to the city by the artist, who has exhibited in France and Argentina.
