Valencia’s first African concept store now on-line

The African design brand Lamu opened of its first concept store in Spain in December 2021.
The shop, which aimed to become a showcase for the world of emerging African fashion, is located at Calle Grabador Esteve 25, in the heart of Valencia.

Now Lamu is also on-line and can be found at https://lamuconcept.com/es/

Lamu African Concept Store is a project that was created from the collaboration of two friends, Safia Benghalia and Sheila Njoroge, who are passionate about the world of fashion, and have created a company run by women that prioritises people by connecting artisans and designers from different parts of Africa with the Spanish market, using trade to create a positive and lasting impact on local communities.

The shop features a collection of contemporary African fashion, home décor, jewellery and accessories
from different brands with the aim of portraying the talent and beauty of the African continent’s cultural heritage and to become a benchmark for African Luxury in Spain.
Sustainability and craftsmanship are the most important values for the Nairobi-based brand, founded in Kenya at the beginning of 2021.
According to Safia: “at Lamu we believe in Slow fashion, both our own products and those of the brands we collaborate with are handmade by local artisans from different parts of Africa using natural fibres, recycled materials and vegetable dyeing processes. For us it is important to take the time to create quality, durable fashion and accessories that empower the artisans who create them and are eco-friendly.

The brand is inspired by and wants to dress women who want to feel strong, empowered and stylish with their own sense of fashion, daring to stand out and be different.”
