Valencia Steps Up

It may not be the dawning of the age of Aquarius, but while Roman civilisation, home of Christianity among other things, stared down at its feet, Valencia stepped forward, and as a result the more than 600 desperate refugees aboard the MSF ship Aquarius and two other vessels, will dock in Valencia for urgent medical treatment and temporary shelter.

We are all mortal, we will all die one day; the only real question is what they will carve on our gravestones. Will it be: ‘I looked the other way’ or will it be ‘I stepped up’?

Latest news; the boats have docked, the refugees are being looked after, and the whole world is talking about Spain and Valencia with pride; as it should be.

Valencia International has received many positive messages (and one less than positive one) such as this:

“I have just moved to Valencia. I’ve been here for two weeks. I watched Aquarius sail into Valencia this morning and it made me really proud to have moved here.
I would love to help them settle in if you need any volunteers. Or please put me in touch with anyone who organises on that front.  I used to deploy to disaster zones with Shelterbox- a disaster relief charity, so I’m trained on various things. I’m learning Spanish, but it’s very basic at the moment. Please let me know if i can help in any way.
Muchas gracias,
Lindsey
