The town of Lliria, also known as Edeta in ancient times, was a thriving Iberian community before it was conquered by the Romans and became the center of Roman life in the area for generations. All modern “Edetanos” know that, whatever you do, you should avoid building a basement for your new house at all costs. If you want to get your dose of Roman remains around Valencia, Lliria is the place to come.
Just a stones-throw away from the central park and one of the main Roman-ruin sites in town is Pub Olympo (Calle Isabel de Villena 14), a stylish bar-lounge that re-opened Thursday March 3, 2016, marking the inauguration of a great live music bar north of Valencia.
The bar was established in the town some years ago as a cocktail lounge with great success, and has now re-opened under new management as a live music bar…something that the region is lacking entirely. Ironically, Lliria is known as “the city of music”, but for whatever reason, there are no live music venues. The classical high-school band associations are famous here, but there are no places to go for a drink and enjoy live music (or any kind of music) so most people have to go to the city if they want to go “out” for the night.
Co-owner at Pub Olympo, Claude Robillard is also Valencia International´s designer and site administrator, as well as a journalistic contributor. He also happens to be a veteran musician in the Valencia area and, aside from being the main house musician at Pub Olympo, is also responsible for booking groups to play in the venue. “What I like to see is people coming here to play their unplugged concerts. The atmosphere in Pub Olympo is so smooth it just makes it the perfect venue for that kind of show.” The bar also has different styles of music including blues nights, jazz nights with full bands (drums, bass, etc.) as well as a jam night where local musicians can come and show their stuff.
Pub Olympo is beautifully furnished and designed in a unique Romanesque style and features a wide range of mixed drinks, beers and specialty house shots. “It´s a comfortable lounge to come to and relax with a great atmosphere and great music”, says Claude, “And of course you can order a “Lemmy” here and receive a Jack Daniels and Coke ….we know what we´re doing ;).”
Pup Olympo has live music every weekend and for the moment all events are free entry. Check out their event calendar here: https://www.facebook.com/pubolympo/events?ref=page_internal. For more information visit www.pubolympo.com or their facebook page at www.facebook.com/pubolympo.
