Proveil Collaborates with La Palma

The Valencian nanofibre mask company Proveil has donated 5,000 masks to the town council of Los Llanos de Aridane, one of the towns most affected by the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano on the island of La Palma.

Since the volcano became active on 19 September, hundreds of residents have been forced to move into family homes and pavilions where a large number of people live together. In addition, the arrival of lava in the ocean has made masks essential for the island’s residents, as inhaling the fumes can be harmful to all the inhabitants of La Palma and nearby islands.

Proveil has responded to this emergency situation by sending 5,000 masks with viricide, which will be distributed by the municipality of Los Llanos de Aridane to protect residents from possible contagion by the coronavirus, as well as from the ash and gases emanating from the volcano.

“Our masks are made with the Proveil filter, which protects more than some traditional masks. Its nanofibre composition makes it better at filtering and the virucidal component it includes increases its protection capacity,” says Jose María Lagarón, a researcher at the CSIC (Spanish National Research Council), the institution which, together with the company Bioinicia, has developed this filter.

Proveil carries out numerous Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) campaigns aimed at protecting the health of the most vulnerable groups. The company has just launched the “Solidarity October” campaign, whose aim is to send masks to various projects and institutions, one for each week of the month, and which includes sending them to La Palma.

Proveil is the Bioinicia group company specialising in the development and commercialisation of nanofibre masks. Developed together with the CSIC (Spanish National Research Council), the filters that Proveil uses in its masks are capable of protecting against bacteria and viruses, as they include an effective viricidal component.

Valencian-based Proveil is part of Bioinicia, a corporation dedicated to the development of biotechnology projects related, among others, to electrospinning and electropolishing processes.
