O’Peregrino Bizarro

If you’re looking for a little corner of Galicia in the centre of Valencia, look no further than O’Peregrino Bizarro, just by the tram station at Pont de Fuster, from where you can walk across the wooden bridge that gives it its name into the historic centre of the city.

A small but friendly restaurant offers a daily menu at 13.50€, which can provide you with some of your favourite dishes from north western Spain, also known as ‘the green bit’.

A piece of tasty bread, bearing a remarkable resemblance to a female breast, nipple and all, starts you off, and the price includes a jug of Rebeiro wine, also known as ‘vino turbio’, despite the lack of inclement weather, served in the traditional white porcelain jug and cup.

I went for a ‘caldo gallego’, a soupy stew, or stewy soup, containing much native greenery and potatoes, quite delicious, and then a fabada, even though that comes from across the border in Asturias.

My fellow diner opted for squid with vegetables, also very pleasant to the palate.

A dessert was included in the price, although coffee was extra.

The sister restaurant, A’Peregrina, is to found in the historic centre, although it’s more of an evening place, but with more Galician decor, if that’s what you’re looking for.

Good value for money and not many tables so you might have to book.

Carrer d’Hug de Montcada, 3
