Melic and Extremo de Cataruz get two golds and a bronze for their feminine and ecological commitment.
The Valencian winery Celler Cataruz, which last year celebrated its 10th anniversary by obtaining Organic Farming Certification for its wines, has achieved, thanks to this development, two Gold and a bronze in the Proava VC Wine Competition in 2020, for two of its most successful wines: Melic and Extremo. Led by Coqué Ruz, a Valencian woman with no winemaking tradition and without financial support, only her enthusiasm and her work, the Celler Cataruz has managed to empower itself.
Cataruz, in this difficult year, has doubled its efforts and has opted 100% for quality and organic farming . A good work in the vintage, and a lot of patience in the elaboration have brought these three medals.
The pleasant surprise was Extreme. A wine that, having been awarded both the Bronze Prize in the Valencia Region Wine Competition and the Gold Prize in the first edition of the CV Organic Wine Competition, stands out for its uniqueness. An original coupage of Verdejo and Viognier at 50% and 4 months in the barrel on lees, its risk taking has brought it immediate fame.
The prizes were awarded in strict accordance with the Covid protocol in the 13th century Celler; a perfect setting for an event of this magnitude.
Cataruz has managed to export to Australia, China, Liberia and Canada, after turning to Organic Farming, as well as entering El Corte Inglés nationally, opening up to the German and Italian markets and increasing its sales in the United Kingdom by 25%. Its objective is to grow while protecting the environment and the health of its consumers. And as its creator says: “Whoever expects more of the same thing will not even look at it.
