Hawkers: Elche to LA (and Netflix)

The Valencian sunglasses manufacturer, Hawkers, has reached an agreement with Netflix to provide the ‘shades’ for a new Tv series, Jaguar’, a story of Nazi-hunters, who are clearly very cool.

The Valencian company now has 70 shops in Spain, Portugal, Morroco, UK and Italy and continues to expand fast.

It’s a long way from Elche to LA; but you don’t have to stay at the Hotel California to be cool. In fact you can enjoy the shades that the LA Lakers and other cool people wear just by buying the sunglasses produced by four friends from Elche, Alex Moreno, David Moreno, Iñaki Soriano and Pablo Sánchez.

Just how cool those shades must be is beyond doubt, as in their first year, half a million pairs of Hawkers were sold, bringing in revenues of 14 million euros, and that’s without counting those bought by relatives of the fantastic four.

They started selling a brand of genuine American sunglasses, but due to supply problems, decided to create their own brand back in 2013.

Using old styles, whose patents had expired they were able to come up with a range of glasses at less than 30 euros a pair, sold exclusively over the Internet.

The company has also upgraded technically and plans to replace plastic with acetate

Their world wide web of clients now includes Germany, Italy, Australia, and of course the USA, where the LA Lakers are among their fans, especially since Hawkers became the team’s first Spanish sponsor.

Although the sunglasses are manufactured in China, every other stage of developments takes place among the palms of Elche, where they employ 40 people.

Their main ranges are called Classic and One, and they include 50 varieties.
