Caxton College Graduation 2019

Carmen Spinola at Caxton College: “You have to firmly believe that nothing is impossible”.

The Manager of Ikea Valencia acted as this year’s sponsor for the ninety students from the nineteenth cohort to graduate from this British school.

With over thirty years of experience behind it, Caxton College has now seen nineteen cohorts of students complete their secondary education here, before going on to occupy positions of importance in the academic and professional fields. This service to society, for which the school was recently presented with an award from the Valencia Rotary Club, promises a very positive future for the graduates, who have been making a name for themselves through their own merits since the start of the 21st century at the most prestigious national and international universities, and later reaching positions of responsibility in highly qualified professional areas.

As in previous years, the celebration of the end of this stage of their school life was very emotional, filled with messages of goodwill from all attendees. Carmen Spinola, as sponsor of this cohort, aimed to encourage them with a speech during which she proposed that they take into account “the value of effort, teamwork, being honest with oneself, the firm belief that nothing is impossible, that you are what you want to be and you decide which path to take; and that success or failure do not come from luck, but rather from your own hard work and perseverance “.

In turn, the Principal of Caxton College, Amparo Gil, addressed the young graduates with some well-chosen words praising their attitude as she stated that “each and every one of you are stars, unique, magnificent and unrepeatable. Each one with a destiny and a journey to make, during which you will share your values and your humanity”.

The ceremony, attended by almost 600 guests, brought together families of ten nationalities as it included graduates from countries such as Switzerland, China, the United Kingdom, Russia, the Netherlands, Hungary and Lebanon, creating an environment of exemplary multicultural coexistence. The voice of that multicultural environment became a protagonist when one of the parents took the floor and gave the students some sage advice, such as recommending that they “think about the new adventures that the endless search for knowledge will bring you, and remember that the most important thing in this world is not knowing where you are, but where you are going”. He also encouraged them with his last sentence, which could be their catchphrase, when he asked them to “go out into the world and make it better.”

Finally, Spinola once again addressed the graduates to remind them to always ” be brave and curious, whilst remaining true to yourselves and your principles and values.” She finished by saying that “my wish for each of you is that you enjoy life, your work, your family, the people around you, and that you continue to build your lives to lead the world.”
