Castellón: Cradle of Calculation

Ten year old Maikel Amores took Moscow by storm in July 2018 to be proclaimed world champion in mental calculation.

In fact, 4 Castellón students occupied the first four positions, as apart from Maikel, who studies at CEIP Cervantes, the brothers Adrián and Marcos De Mateo study at CEIP Juan García Ripollés and fourth placed Saúl Palomo studies at La Magdalena.

To win the competition, the boys saw off competition from over 600 students from India, Portugal, Ireland, China, Germany, Panama, Ecuador, Croatia, Malaya, Uzbekistan, Philippines, and of course Russia.

The competition consisted of making as few mistakes as possible during 70 calculations in five minutes, and is organised by Aloha Mental Arithmetic.
