Bambalina’s Puppet Magic in Asia

The Valencian Puppet Company Bambalina has been thrilling children and adults alike since 1981; and now, the children and adults of China and Korea (the south, not the north, where they are really serious about fun) will have the opportunity to fiind out why Bambalina is a reference in the magical world of the puppets on or off a string.

On the 26th and 27th of July 2014 they will perform in Beijing at the International Theatre festival, while on the 29th, 30th and 31st they will be in Seoul at the ASSITEJ International Summer Festival. Finally on the 2nd and 3rd of August they will close their Asian tour at Mir Yang at the Miryang Summer Performing Arts Festival

Bambalina began life in the village of Albaida in 1981, creating the Mostra de Titelles a la Vall d’Albaida (1985) and the Museo Internacional de Títeres de Albaida (1997), two initiatives that have put Albaida at the centre of international interest in the world of puppets.

In the 21st century they began collaborating with the Instituto Cervantes, which led to tours of the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America, South America, Morocco and the whole of East Asia.01

Among the companies many productions are Pinocchio, Quijote, Ulysses, Cyrano de Bergerac, Alice, The Maese Pedro puppet show, The soldier’s story, The garden of earthly delights, Pasionaria, The smile of Federico García Lorca, , Kraft, The unreal woman and Cosmos.

The company are already well known beyond Albaida and across the Spanish border, having achieved various international awards such as Best Theatre Show, Maribor International Puppet Festival (Slovenia) 2007. Honourable Mention, Torun International Puppet Festival (Poland) 2007. Honourable Mention from the Grand Theatre, Havana (Cuba) 1999. Best Show in the Sallanches (France) International Humour Festival Best Show, Botosani Marionettes Festival (Romania). Honourable Mention from the Grand Theatre, Havana (Cuba) 1999. Best show, Torun International Puppet Festival 1999 (Poland).
