ESTIU ICE CREAM WILL INVEST 20 MILLION IN CHESTE AND

EXPORT MOCHIS

In 2019, 28 million litres of ice cream were manufactured and sales reached 61 million.

The Valencian company Helados Estiu is investing 20 million euros in Cheste to create a new manufacturing plant. This investment will be completed in 2021 and means growth, not only for the company, which has not stopped working during the confinement, but for all the companies involved, which have returned to work, complying with all the safety protocols. In 2019 it closed with a turnover of 61 million euros, with the commercialization of 27.7 million litres of ice cream and with the international launch of Wao Mochi.

Helados Estiu, located in Ribarroja de Túria, bought a 70,000 m2 site in Cheste in 2016. New chambers were built there to improve the logistics and a new warehouse to expand its capacity and install new lines. The construction, which began in 2019, will be completed in 2021 and will involve an overall investment of 20 million euros.

Mercadona’s supplier manufactured two million more litres of ice cream last year than the previous one, increasing turnover by 5 million euros. In addition to the good weather, the success of the bonbon type ice cream, with the launch of the mini oreo bonbon and a mini cookie sandwich, was fundamental. Net profits reached 2.7 million euros.

This year, Helados Estiu has relaunched its renowned mochis, inspired by the famous Japanese dessert, with a cover of rice dough and a filling of creamy coconut ice cream and mango sorbet, a product that involved an elaborate process for the Research and Development department.

2019 has brought an important milestone, the launch of its own international brand, Wao Mochi, which has already started to be marketed in the Netherlands, Ireland, Ukraine, Finland, Latvia, Germany and Armenia. For the time being, this represents a small percentage of its turnover, but it is expected that growth will be progressive in the coming years. Wao Mochis are sold in various flavours such as chocolate, vanilla or matcha tea.

Since it was founded in 1983, Helados Estiu has not stopped growing and reinvesting profits in R&D&I and in improving production, logistics and lines because what impregnates its spirit is the search for excellence throughout all its departments.
